Jane Harman was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1992. During her six terms in Congress she has gained a national reputation as one of the foremost experts on issues of intelligence, homeland security and foreign affairs. In addition to serving on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the House Homeland Security Committee, she has also served on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Science Committee.
Prior to her election, Harman was an attorney in private practice. A graduate of Smith College and Harvard Law School, Harman has served as Deputy Secretary of he Cabinet in he Carter White House, Special Counsel at the Department of Defense, a member of the National Commission on Terrorism, and as Regents Professor at the University of California-Los Angeles.
