"The Scope of the Issues"
Among the new national security issues that have been posited over the last decade or so are environmental changes. In that the idea of natural resources is sometimes subsumed into the concept of "environment", this is hardly a new idea; but issues like climate change; long-range, persistent, toxic wastes; and biodiversity add new dimensions.With its leadership in the somewhat separate fields of research on Environment, Resources & Security (ERS), the BCSIA is uniquely capable of addressing the linkages between these issues, and in understanding what these linkages mean for policy. At the brown-bag lunch we will explore the scope of current ERS research, identify related work at the BCSIA, and discuss potential research issues.
