About

The National Security Program and the Belfer Center are co-sponsors of a weekly study group to promote awareness of American military affairs. This week, Michael Baskin will present his preliminary dissertation findings. Michael studies the use of negotiation by military actors within armed conflict. His findings build on interviews with 42 US Marine Corps Infantry Battalion commanders regarding their negotiation experiences while deployed in Helmand Province from 2008-2013. His research also affords insight into how military operations change in specific Afghan districts over time, particularly with a focus on the US surge and drawdown of forces in Afghanistan.
