Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin will discuss India's multilateral engagement, including its ideas for UN reform and the structure of the United Nations Security Council in a public speech at the Center for Global and International Studies (CGIS) as part of SOUTH ASIA WEEK.
Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin was appointed as Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations in November 2015, having served as the spokesperson of the External Affairs Ministry immediately prior to this appointment from 2012-2015.
Ambassador Akbaruddin joined the Foreign Service in 1985 and following numerous stations in West Asia, including Consul General at Jeddah from 2000-2004, served at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Geneva from 2008 - 2011. From 2004-2005 he was the director at the Foreign Secretary's Office of the Ministry. Before leaving India for New York, he became the Chief Coordinator of the Indo-Africa Summit here which was participated by heads of state and government of 41 countries from African continent.
