Unilateralism is a growing topic in various fields of international studies such as international economy, international legal affairs, and international politics. Although unilateralism is often referred to, it is not a clear concept. The speaker will analyze if unilateralism can be seen as a "power maximizing tool" to advance a state’s national interest. The case of the United States will serve as an example to highlight the advantages as well as the pitfalls of the use of unilateralism in a changing world.
