The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs will host a talk with Hyong-O Kim, Republic of Korea’s former Speaker of the National Assembly in NYE A & B (Taubman building, 5th floor). There will be a wine and cheese reception.
Hyong-O Kim served as the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea between 2008 and 2010. He served five consecutive terms as a member of the National Assembly between 1992 and 2012 during which he served as the Floor Leader of the Grand National Party (2006 – 2007), Secretary General of the Grand National Party (2004 – 2005), Chairman of the Science, Technology, Information, and Telecommunications Committee (2001 – 2003), and Chairman of the Special Committee on Economic Reform and Unemployment (1998). In 2013, he was awarded the Mugunghwa Medal, the highest order of civil merit. He received his bachelors and masters at Seoul National University, and his doctorate in political science at Kyungnam University.
