Aleksis Oreschnikoff is a Doctoral Researcher in Political Science at the University of Helsinki and a Research Fellow at the North American and Arctic Defence and Security Network (NAADSN). He also serves on the board of the Finnish Arctic Society and is affiliated with the Svalbard Social Science Initiative.
Oreschnikoff’s project, “Research Infrastructures and Arctic (In)Security,” focuses on scientific infrastructures and threat perceptions in the Arctic with the aim to better understand the relationship between science and security in international relations. He also follows maritime, Antarctic, and outer space affairs, and is interested in technological, environmental and non-state actors in global politics.
Oreschnikoff has previously worked for the United Nations University Center for Policy Research (UNU-CPR), the Finnish Academy for Science and Letters, the Secretariat of the Antarctic Treaty, and consulted Finnish ministries, agencies and public organizations on public policy and strategy. He is a Master’s graduate in European and Nordic Studies at the University of Helsinki and holds Bachelor’s degree from UiT – the Arctic University of Norway. During his studies he completed traineeships and research stays in Helsinki, Copenhagen, Paris, Oslo and St. Petersburg.
