Chloë Mayoux is a historian of technology and empire in 20th century Europe and Africa. She is currently working on a book project about African independence in the nuclear age, with a focus on the evolution of intra-African politics and the production of environmental knowledge.

She earnt her Ph.D. in International History from the London School of Economics. Before joining the Belfer Center as an Ernest May Postdoctoral Fellow in History and Policy, Chloë spent one year as a Visiting Doctoral Fellow at Sciences Po’s Centre for History. Her fieldwork in West Africa was funded by the Royal Historical Society, and the Society for the Study of French History.

Previously, Chloë served as Managing Editor of the Cold War History journal. She holds a Master’s degree in Global and Imperial History from the University of Oxford, a Certificate in International Affairs and Strategy from Sciences Po Paris, and a B.A. in European Studies from King’s College London.
