John McHugh

John is Senior Research Associate and Manager of Graham Allison’s team at Harvard’s Belfer Center. John oversees the Avoiding Great Power War Project and is the China Working Group executive officer. He was previously a researcher at Harvard Business School and authored case studies on the US-China trade war, including on Huawei, TSMC, and TikTok. He has worked at the Council on Foreign Relations for Ely Ratner and at CSIS on Chinese global investments. John received his B.A. from Indiana University and his master’s degrees in politics and China studies from Oxford as a Marshall Scholar.
