Maja Wolland Blomberg is a Predoctoral Research Fellow with the Belfer Center's Arctic Initiative. She does research on people and communities in the Arctic. She is a PhD candidate at the High North Center for Business and Governance (HNC) at Nord University Business School (Bodø, Norway).

Her research project aims to find out how Northern Norway can become a more attractive region for people to work and live. She studies High North policy, local policy, and population statistics, and is currently working on a chapter on resilient Arctic communities.

Maja has a background in political science from France and in business from Nord University.  She has previously had a research stay with the Fridtjof Nansen Institute (FNI) and has worked at the French embassy in Oslo.

Since 2023, Maja has managed the HND Academy during the yearly High North Dialogue Conference in Bodø. This project is a practical approach to her research, aiming to showcase the possibilities and debates in Arctic societies and to debunk myths about the Arctic being an ice desert where no one lives.

At the Arctic Initiative, Maja will continue her research on Arctic resilience and on how to strengthen Arctic communities as places where people live happy, fulfilling lives.
