Lukas is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in History at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. His dissertation explores West Germany's Ostpolitik during the Cold War, focusing specifically on the tensions between the policy of rapprochement with the Soviet Union and the deepening of Europe's economic and political integration. Lukas previously worked as a policy advisor and speechwriter at the CDU party headquarters in Berlin and for the CDU leadership campaign of Friedrich Merz.

He holds a BSc. in Government and History from the London School of Economics and Political Science, an M.Phil. in Modern European History from the University of Cambridge, and an M.A. in Global Affairs from Tsinghua University, where he studied as a Schwarzman Scholar. He is the recipient of scholarships from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the German Academic Scholarship Foundation.
