Lieutenant Colonel Richard Neikirk most recently served as the Commanding Officer, 1st Battalion, 12th Marines, a Pacific based artillery battalion undergoing transformation into an anti-ship missile force.  

He has commanded at each rank in his nineteen-year career including combat in Ramadi and Fallujah, Iraq, an artillery battery in Afghanistan, humanitarian assistance disaster relief missions in the Philippines and as commander for Marine recruiters in North Carolina.  He has served in all three Marine Divisions and with Special Operations Command, Pacific.  

LtCol Neikirk is a Joint Qualified Officer and holds a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.  He is a native of New Wilmington, Pennsylvania and was commissioned in the Marine Corps in 2003 after graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.
