Shyam Saran
Shyam Saran is a career diplomat who has served in significant positions in the Indian government for over three decades. He is the current Chairman of the Research and Information Systems for Developing Countries (RIS) think tank and Senior Fellow at the Centre for Policy Research in New Delhi. Saran last served as special Envoy of the Prime Minister of India (October 2006 to March 2010) specializing in nuclear issues, and he also was the Indian Envoy on climate change.
Prior to this appointment, Mr. Saran was the Foreign Secretary, Government of India (2004-2006). Saran also served as the Ambassador of India to Nepal, Indonesia, Myanmar and Mauritius. He has held diplomatic appointments in Geneva, Beijing and Tokyo and was a fellow of the United Nations Disarmament program in Geneva, Vienna and New York. Saran holds a post-Graduate degree in economics.
