Zhangliang Chen
Prof. Zhangliang Chen was born on February 3, 1961 in Fujian, P.R. China. He received his Ph.D in Prof. Roger Beachy’s lab from Washington University in St. Louis, majored in plant molecular biology and biotechnology. He returned back to China and became professor Peking University. He served as Department Chairman, Dean in the school of Life Sciences and the Vice president in Peking University from 1996 to 2002. He has also served as Director of China National Laboratory of Protein Engineering and Plant Genetic Engineering. He has been actively involved in agrobiotechnology research and biosafety issues. He is member in China National Agro-GMO Biosafety Committee for approving field trial and commercialization of GMO in China. He and his colleagues have published 7 books and nearly 200 papers.
Since 2002, Professor Chen has been the President of China Agricultural University. He also serves as Chair of Plant Biotech of UNESCO, He has been serving as member in the Council of Scientific Advisers of the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) from 2005. He was invited to be member in the Council of Advisors in the World Food Prize since 2007.
Professor Chen was appointed as Vice Governor of Guangxi Province in 2008,in charge of agriculture, rural development as well as science and technology in the province. He is also keeping his professor position and his laboratory in China Agricultural University.
