Broadmoor's LaToya Cantrell Speaks at the First Neighborhood Empowerment Summit

LaToya Cantrell, President of the Broadmoor Improvement Association was the keynote speaker at San Francisco's inaugural neighborhood summit on September 8, 2007. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom is implementing an innovative neighborhood network inspired by the work of Broadmoor in New Orleans.

More About the Summit

The first ever Neighborhood Empowerment Summit will offer a "one stop shop" for people who want make their neighborhood a better place to live. The Summit will feature a resource fair and break out sessions that are designed to not only raise awareness of great programs, but also explain with real life examples how to implement them to improve one’s community. The key areas of focus for the summit are, Public Safety, Clean and Green, Community Building, and Disaster Preparedness.

The summit is a prime example of how Harvard University’s work in Broadmoor is influencing neighborhoods around the United States to implement mapping projects, disaster preparedness, and emergency management planning.
