International Security is America's leading peer-reviewed journal of security affairs.
Summary
Despite the abundance of recent scholarship on the domestic politics of states’ nuclear decisionmaking, a systematic accounting for when and how newly identified mechanisms affect nuclear choices is missing. Domestic politics play a significant role under two conditions: when uncertainty over the nature and intensity of a threat is high, and when leaders are incentivized to centralize nuclear policymaking.
