Export Strategy for Lebanon

Download

This Student Research explores how to combat Lebanon's recent history of relatively slow and volatile GDP growth. The paper argues that Lebanon's failure to create sufficient high-skilled jobs, which has resulted in significant emigration of high-skilled Lebanese, can be reversed with a focus on export sector reform. In this study, data-driven analysis proves that the expansion of both existing, and feasible new manufacturing export products, can provide opportunities for Lebanon to create high-skilled jobs and to enhance the sophistication of its export basket, thus spurring GDP growth. This analysis also suggests that Lebanon’s current production and export structure has cultivated many of the capabilities necessary for the production of more sophisticated export products.
