Event Summary

HIIP Re-Cap

The annual Lewis M. Branscomb Lecture, sponsored by the Harvard Information Infrastructure Project (HIIP) and the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program (STPP), featured Mary L. Good, President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and former Under Secretary for Technology, Technology Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce, who spoke on the status of U.S. research policy in December. Good urged the "sages" of science, technology, and government to make an effort to coordinate and organize the federal role in research.
The Harvard University Faculty Seminar on Information Policy, chaired by Dean Joseph S. Nye and organized by HIIP in November, featured Michael M. Roberts, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) with commentary from Assistant Professor of Public Policy L. Jean Camp and Professor of Law Jonathan Zittrain. ICANN was created in response to a Clinton Administration initiative to privatize the management of the Domain Name and Address System of the Internet.
