“Islam and Muslim Societies: An Analytical Examination” was the focus of a conference hosted by the Belfer Center’s Middle East Initiative. The conference addressed subjects like Muslim views of America and how they differ across the Arab world, connections between Islam and financial markets, and the relationship between Islam and political participation.
More than 40 faculty and graduate students within the disciplines of economics, political science, and history attended the conference on April 8th and 9th. Participants came from several different institutions in the U.S. and Europe to present and discuss current research as well as recently published work.
The conference was organized by Harvard Kennedy School professors Tarek Masoud and Asim Khwaja and Professor Eric Chaney of the Harvard University Economics Department. The Middle East Initiative funded the conference, with additional support from the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs and Outreach Center at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies.
