Cambridge, MA – Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs is pleased to announce that Mark Pascale will be the new Director of the Center’s Intelligence Project. As Director, Pascale will succeed former Director Paul Kolbe as the senior mentor of the Recanati-Kaplan Fellows and lead the work of the Center to advance policy-relevant knowledge in intelligence areas and help prepare future leaders. He will begin the position in July.
Professor Graham Allison, who chairs this initiative, welcomed Mark, noting that he is “one of the most accomplished U.S. intelligence officers in recent history with the unique distinction of having served as Chief of Station in three of the most challenging operational environments in the world.” Pascale is fluent in Mandarin, Russian, and Arabic and spent 14 years of his adult life in China, Russia, and Syria. He also served multiple tours throughout the Middle East, East Asia, and the former Soviet Union.
In accepting the appointment, Pascale said: “I’m full of enthusiasm for this new challenge. I very much look forward to close collaboration and engagement with the distinguished Recanati-Kaplan Fellows. I’ve admired the Belfer Center’s work for years and am deeply honored to become a member of the Belfer Team.”
Since 2021, Pascale has served as Vice President of Intelligence for Strider Technologies, a strategic intelligence firm that manages the risk associated with nation state intellectual property theft and supply chain vulnerabilities. Mark holds a BA in International Relations from Colgate University and an MA in Security Studies from Johns Hopkins SAIS. In the early 1990s, he was one of a few American students to be enrolled for twelve months at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO).
