John Holdren, Director of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program, was awarded the Tyler Prize for Environ-mental Achievement, the premier award honoring achievements in environmental science and environmental protection. The Tyler Prize, which is administered by the University of Southern California, will be presented to Holdren in Los Angeles on April 14, 2000.
Holdren was also recognized by the Kaul Foundation for excellence in the field of science and environmental policy as a "researcher, educator, and policy advocate for a balanced global portfolio of environ-mentally acceptable energy options and arms control for the twenty-first century."
Deborah Hurley, Director of the Harvard Information Infrastructure Project, was selected as one of seven finalists for the World Technology Award for Policy. The award, bestowed by the World Technology Network and the Economist magazine, honors leaders who most contribute to the advance of emerging technologies of all sorts for the benefit of business and society.
Deborah Hurley has also been appointed to a three-year term as a member of the American Academy for the Advancement of Science''s Advisory Committee on International Science. BCSIA Senior Research Associate Robert Frosch also serves as an ACIS member.
Robert Stavins, Faculty Chair of the Environmental and Natural Resources Program, was re-appointed as Chairman of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency''s Environmental Economics Advisory Committee. Stavins was also appointed to the Executive Committee of Harvard University''s Committee on the Environment.
BCSIA Director Graham Allison''s1969 article, "Conceptual Models and the Cuban Missile Crisis," was the most downloaded article on the internet (via JSTOR) from January 1997 to June 1999 according to the American Political Science Review.
Richard Falkenrath, Director of the Executive Session on Domestic Preparedness, was appointed to a congressionally mandated Commission to Assess State and Local Domestic Preparedness for Terrorism, chaired by Governor Jim Gilmore of Virginia.
