PDP Co-Director William J. Perry named to Pentagon’s Defense Policy Board

Washington, DC – Secretary Gates named PDP Co-Director William J. Perry to the Pentagon’s Defense Policy Board.  The Board provides the Secretary of Defense with independent, informed advice and opinion concerning major matters of defense policy. It focuses on long-term issues central to the Pentagon’s strategic planning, and is responsible for research and analysis of topics, long- or short-range, as requested by the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Under Secretary for Policy.

Other new members include former Deputy National Security Advisor J.D. Crouch, former Under Secretary of State Robert Joseph, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Gen. (Ret.) Pete Pace, and former Assistant Secretary of Defense Peter Rodman.

These new members join the following returning members Harold Brown, Adm. (Ret.) Vern Clark, Victoria Clarke, Devon Cross, Aaron Friedberg, Newt Gingrich, Fred Ikle, Gen. (Ret.) Jack Keane, Henry Kissinger, Gen. (Ret.) Richard Myers, Nadia Schadlow, James Schlesinger, Marin Strmecki, Vin Weber, Ruth Wedgwood, Christopher Williams, and James Q. Wilson.

The Defense Policy Board Advisory Committee will be chaired by Dr. John Hamre. Hamre, a former deputy secretary of defense, is currently the president and chief executive officer of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
