Remembering Leo Kahn

Belfer Center Director Graham Allison reflects on the passing of Leo Kahn, long-time member of the Center's International Council and community.

"We lost a long-standing, cherished member of our Belfer Center International Council this week with the death of Leo Kahn at the age of 94.

Leo led a long and fulfilling life. In addition to marathon running, he served as a captain navigator in the Air Corps during World War II, expanded his family’s grocery business to become a major supermarket chain, co-founded Staples as well as many other successful ventures.

Here is a link to the very eloquent obituary that ran on the front page of the Boston Globe today, with a headline that appropriately lauds Leo as a “kind-hearted entrepreneur.”

Leo, Harvard class of 1938, was a star and inspiration to many and will be sorely missed.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife Emily and the family."
