The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs is pleased to announce that Mr. William Tobey has been selected to be the Director of the US Russia Initiative to Prevent Nuclear Terrorism.
Will Tobey is a Senior Fellow at the Belfer Center and has been a key part of the Belfer team working on the initiative to prevent nuclear terrorism since its inception. He is a former Deputy Administrator for Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation at the National Nuclear Security Administration and he has years of experience working with Russian and foreign counterparts on nuclear issues. As Deputy Administrator in the NNSA, Will managed the U.S. government's largest program to prevent nuclear proliferation and terrorism through detection, securing, and disposing of dangerous nuclear material. He served on the National Security Council Staff in three administrations and has participated in international negotiations ranging from the START talks with the Soviet Union, to the Six Party Talks with North Korea.
Kevin Ryan, the previous director, has been selected as the Belfer Center's new Executive Director for Research. He will remain a member of the US-Russia Initiative, focusing on the US-Russian relationship.
