Ian Bremmer Joins Belfer Center as Senior Fellow

Cambridge, MA - February 5, 2025 – The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School is pleased to announce that Ian Bremmer has joined the Center as a non-resident Senior Fellow, contributing to the Center’s growing body of work on the changing global order. His particular focus will be a book project examining the long-term cycles of geopolitics, including his concept of “geopolitical recessions,” providing valuable insights into the forces shaping today’s international landscape. 

Cambridge, MA February 5, 2025 – The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard Kennedy School is pleased to announce that Ian Bremmer has joined the Center as a non-resident Senior Fellow. In this role, Bremmer will contribute to the Center’s mission of advancing policy-relevant research and will engage with students, faculty, and the broader Harvard community on critical global challenges. Bremmer will contribute to the Belfer Center’s growing body of work on the changing global order – a longstanding focus of the Center and a key driver of its current initiatives.  His particular focus will be a book project examining the long-term cycles of geopolitics, including his concept of “geopolitical recessions,” providing valuable insights into the forces shaping today’s international landscape.

Bremmer, President and Founder of Eurasia Group and GZERO Media, is a prominent political scientist and leading authority on geopolitics and global risk. He is the author of numerous books, including Us VS. Them and The Power of Crisis, which explore the intersection of politics, economics, and international affairs.

In his capacity as Senior Fellow, Bremmer will host seminars and discussions with students and faculty, bringing his deep understanding of geopolitical trends to bear on pressing issues such as technological disruption, climate change, and great power competition. He will also contribute to the Belfer Center’s research initiatives, drawing on his wide-ranging scholarship and experience. 

Bremmer’s appointment reflects the Belfer Center’s commitment to fostering innovative thinking and interdisciplinary collaboration to address global challenges. His presence on campus will offer unique opportunities for students to engage directly with a leading thinker at the forefront of international affairs.
