The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs is proud to host a Brown Bag Lunch entitled "World in the Balance: China Revs Up” featuring John Holdren, Director of the Science, Technology, and Public Policy Program, and Kelly Sims Gallagher, Director of the Energy Technology Innovation Project.
We will screen the NOVA documentary that Kelly and John helped produce that was recently aired nationwide. Afterwards they will discuss the documentary and their research to encourage cleaner energy use in China.
The program documents how China's air, land, and water are beginning to suffer as the sprawling country – which has the most rapidly growing economy in the history of the world – develops from a poor nation and aspires to a more middle-class lifestyle. Already, a massive dust cloud of eroded soil from Mongolia has darkened the skies over North America, and air pollution from Beijing and Shanghai regularly wafts as far as California and Oregon.
Please join us for what is sure to be a stimulating and informative discussion.
