Study Group Topic: As artificial intelligence transforms how we communicate and make decisions, digital deliberation is emerging as a powerful tool in conflict resolution and peacebuilding. The United Nations and other institutions have embraced digital dialogues, particularly during the pandemic, spotlighting the potential of machine-assisted approaches to resolve disputes. We will explore how new AI-driven technologies are reshaping the field of mediation and its implications for policy making and politics.
The seminar will examine opportunities and challenges in the context of inclusivity, efficiency, and data-driven decision-making. Drawing from real-world examples and current practices, it will unpack the use of machines in human-centric negotiation processes. We will invite a discussion on the evolving role of technology in resolving complex conflicts and what this means for the future of AI and the future of war and peace.
Tech and Geopolitics Fellow, Dr Nur Laiq, will lead the session with tech and conflict resolution experts, Dr Martin Wahlisch from the United Nations and Dr Jeff Suel from Harvard Law School.
