Drawing on his experience serving in the first Trump administration and his expertise on U.S.–China relations, Yu will examine the evolution of U.S. policy toward China and the strategic challenges shaping the bilateral relationship. He will discuss the forces driving competition between Washington and Beijing, and the implications of the administration’s approach for trade, technology, national security, and the Indo-Pacific.
With President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping expected to meet in Washington on September 24, Yu will also offer his assessment of the summit’s likely agenda and significance. The discussion will consider what the meeting may reveal about the future direction of U.S.–China relations.
This event is part of the newly launched Thinking on China: A Belfer Center Conversation Series.
