"Cry Freedom" is Richard Attenborough?s film about South African apartheid, chronicling the friendship between activist Steve Biko and author Donald Woods. The film is based on the book by Donald Woods and stars Kevin Kline and Denzel Washington. Philippa Green is currently a Nieman Fellow and as a journalist covered black opposition politics during apartheid as well as the transition to the post-apartheid era.
