Belfer Center Directors' Seminar "Information Technology and Public Policy - Issues for the Future," James B. Steinberg, Senior Advisor, Markle Foundation and former deputy National Security Advisor to President William J. Clinton.

James B. Steinberg joined the Markle Foundation as a Senior Advisor in September 2000. He previously served as Deputy National Security Advisor to President Clinton from December 1996 until July 2000. He also served as Chief of Staff of the U.S. State Department in November and December 1996, and Director of the State Department?s Policy Planning Staff, from March 1994 to October 1996. From 1993 to 1994 he was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Analysis in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research, Department of State. Mr. Steinberg has authored a number of books and articles on foreign and domestic policy. He is currently working on a major study on information technology and public policy for the Markle Foundation.
