CANCELLED | Nuclear Proliferation and American Security: The Inaugural Carnesale Convening

Open to the Public

Please join the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs for a conversation with Ernest J. Moniz, former U.S. Secretary of Energy; Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar, President of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; Meghan O'Sullivan, Director of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs; and Matthew Bunn, James R. Schlesinger Professor of the Practice of Energy, National Security, and Foreign Policy at Harvard Kennedy School.

With the last treaty limiting U.S. and Russian nuclear weapons recently expired, join us for a discussion of the world's frayed nuclear nonproliferation regime, why it matters for U.S. national security, and how we can address nuclear risks in a dangerous age. The conversation will draw on a bipartisan task force conducted last year by the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and the Nuclear Threat Initiative.

This Forum will inaugurate the Carnesale Convenings, a new Belfer Center series in honor of former Kennedy School Dean, Harvard Provost, and UCLA Chancellor Albert Carnesale, whose scholarship has made central contributions to nuclear policy and other fields.

This session will be moderated by Francesca Giovannini, Executive Director of the Project on Managing the Atom at the Belfer Center. Graham Allison, Douglas Dillon Professor of Government at Harvard Kennedy School, and Daniel B. Poneman, Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and member of the Belfer Center International Council, will give opening remarks.

Please register with a valid Harvard email address to attend in-person. All JFK Jr. Forums are publicly livestreamed on the Institute of Politics YouTube channel.
