He has served in a senior Russian military leadership position as Russia has integrated its forces into the common fight against terrorists and has been particularly concerned about the link between terrorists and weapons of mass destruction.

The Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs is proud to host a Director's Seminar entitled "A Perspective from the Russian General Staff" with Gen-Col Yury Baluyevsky, First Deputy Chief of the Russian General Staff. General Baluyevsky has a wide range of responsibilities from arms control to the global war on terrorism. He has served in a senior Russian military leadership position as Russia has integrated its forces into the common fight against terrorists and has been particularly concerned about the link between terrorists and weapons of mass destruction. The transformation and modernization of the Russian Armed Forces, the continuing struggle in Chechnya, as well as Russia's role in a possible war with Iraq will all be at the top of his agenda during this short visit.
