The Sudan: Between Peace and War
The Sudan: Between Peace and War
The Sudan: Between Peace and War
The continued killing of innocent civilians in the Sudan, the inability of the international community to affect the various ongoing conflicts, and the failure of the various parties to mayhem in the Sudan to respect truce promises and obligations are of grave concern. This small, off-the-record meeting will assess progress and lack of progress in the Sudan, discussing topics including:
I – Implementation of the North-South Agreement
II – Ending the Darfur Conflict
III – Ending Conflict in the Northeast
IV – Creating Developmental Openings
V – Policy Recommendations
One of the main projected outcomes of the meeting will be a set of policy recommendations. What should and can be done to strengthen peace in the entire Sudan? What should Washington do? What should the EU do? What should the UN do next? What tasks should be left to the AU? Another purpose of the meeting will be to develop a mutual understanding about the true state of peace and war in the Sudan, and about the factual situations on the ground.
