Makayla Wendland

Makayla Wendland is an International Security Program Fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. She studies issues relating to terrorism, insurgency, conflict resolution, and geography and conflict. Her current projects explore the violent behavior of terrorist splinter groups, how collaboration between terrorist groups affects conflict resolution efforts, and the effect of extreme weather events on the spatial distribution of violent attacks. Her research leverages original datasets, geocoding and spatial analysis, and policy-relevant case studies to understand political violence.

Wendland completed her Ph.D. in Political Science at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She received her M.A. in International Studies from the University of Denver Josef Korbel School of International Studies, and her B.A. in Political Science and in Sociology from Hastings College.
