Col James Long is a special agent with the Air Force attending the Belfer Center as a National Security Fellow.  Col Long has served 30 years in the military both active duty and reserve.  He first enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1990 and subsequently obtained a commission in the Air Force in 1999.  

Col Long has participated in numerous operations and conflicts spanning the globe, including leading a unit in Iraq to counter Al Qaida and Islamic State.  He has also served as an Air Force Legislative Fellow where he was assigned to a U.S. Senator to handle national security issues and foreign affairs.  

Col Long holds a B.S. in Environmental Studies from Northern Illinois University, M.S. in Administration from Central Michigan University, Masters Certificate in Legislative Studies from Georgetown University, and is a graduate of the Air Force’s Air Command and Staff College and Air Force’s War College.
