Lieutenant Colonel Michelle Sabala is a Security Forces officer that most recently served as the Policy Branch Chief for the National Guard Bureau’s Joint Staff Policy and Strategy Division.

Lt Col Sabala enlisted in the Air National Guard in 2001, serving as a Security Forces Journeyman, Combat Arms Training and Maintenance Instructor, and Counter Drug Support Program Drug Demand Reduction Noncommissioned Officer. She then commissioned through the Academy of Military Science in November of 2009 as a Security Forces Officer, and served in many roles, including Officer Training School Instructor, Operations Officer, and Anti-terrorism Officer. Lt Col Sabala is a two-time graduated squadron commander and has deployed multiple times in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, and NEW DAWN.

Lt Col Sabala is a graduate of Army Command and General Staff College (CGSC) and the Air Force’s School of Advanced Air and Space Studies. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Alaska Fairbanks, a master’s degree in Business Administration from American Military University, a Master of Military Art and Science degree in Military History from the CGSC, a master’s degree in Global and International Studies from University of Kansas, and a master’s degree in Philosophy from Air University.
