Abstract
Based on the scenario framework developed in the 1997 PoleStar report, Branch Points: Global Scenarios and Human Choice, Bending the Curve examines the prospects for a transition to sustainability in the 21st century. It proposes specific social and environmental targets for global sustainability and, within the confines of Conventional Worlds development scenarios, discusses strategies to reach them.
The analysis shows both the great potential for progress and the daunting challenges within a growth-driven development paradigm.
