General Joseph F. Dunford Receives Prestigious Order of Australia
General Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. (ret.), former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and a Senior Fellow with the Belfer Center, has been awarded the prestigious Order of Australia.
The award was presented to Dunford in September for his efforts to deepen the bi-lateral relationship between the U.S. and Australia while he was Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The award reads:
“With the approval of Queen Elizabeth The Second (Queen of Australia and Sovereign of the Order of Australia), General Joseph F. Dunford is appointed an honorary officer in the military division of the Order of Australia.”
The award was presented to Dunford by The Honorable Nicholas Greiner, Consul General of Australia to the United States, along with a delegation from the Australian Consulate.
Dunford served from October 2015 through September 2019 as the 19th chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. A U.S. Marine Corps four-star general, he was the 36th commandant of the Marine Corps.
