Inside the Middle East: Q&A with Hanan Ashrawi

Dr. Hanan Ashrawi is a renowned legislator, human rights activist and scholar, and is the first woman to be elected to the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, the highest executive body in Palestine, and is an elected member of the Palestinian Legislative Council. She is the founder and Secretary General of the MIFTAH movement, the Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy. Dr. Ashrawi has been representing Palestine as an official spokesperson in peace negotiations with Israel since the late 1980s. She received her PhD in Comparative Literature in Comparative Literature from the University of Virginia, and then founded and chaired the Department of English at Birzeit University, following which she became Dean of the Faculty of Arts at Birzeit. She is the recipient of numerous Honorary Doctorates and distinguished awards.

The Q&A video series brings together political scientists, policymakers, academics, politicians, historians and other social scientists for discussions of critical issues in the Middle East.
