Joseph S. Nye Jr. is the Sultan of Oman Professor of International Relations at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. From December of1995 through June of2004 he was Dean of the Kennedy School. In 1993, 1994, and 1995 he served as Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs—in which position he won two Distinguished Service medals—and as Chair of the National Intelligence Council. His recent books in clude The Power Game: A Washington Novel and Softpower: The Means to Success in World Politics.
