Palestinians and Israelis could live more harmoniously and in close proximity to each other if only they accepted each other’s constructions of the past. Alternatively, they could co-exist more easily if, together, they could construct a bridging narrative that encompassed and spoke to the hopes, aspirations, and mutual struggles for freedom, identity, and control of both peoples. Those are two of the compelling and controversial hypotheses that motivated the first meeting of Palestinian, Israeli, American, Canadian, and British scholars and politicians concerned with the place of Myth and Narrative in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This report contains a summary of their stirring, not always gentle, discussions.
