Shannon Felton Spence Named Director of Global Communications and Strategy for Harvard Kennedy School's Belfer Center
Shannon Felton Spence has been appointed Director of Global Communications and Strategy for Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.
“Shannon is an extraordinary talent,” said Belfer Center Co-Director Eric Rosenbach. “She’ll connect the Belfer Center with the world and help us advance policy-relevant knowledge in new and innovative ways. The Belfer Center is so lucky to have her join our team.”
Spence brings over a decade of experience leading communications for some of the world’s most recognized experts and organizations. She joins the Belfer Center from Georgetown University, where she was Director of Communications and Marketing at the Beeck Center for Social Impact + Innovation, leading the Center in broadcasting its vision of data, design, technology, and policy as instruments for equitable societal change. As a senior leadership team member, she spearheaded all editorial, marketing, design, digital, social, and external relations efforts.
“The Belfer Center brings leading policy experts to the students who are the future of international security. For nearly half a century, they have worked to solve some of the world’s most pressing challenges,” said Spence. “I'm honored to join this storied institution, and I look forward to working with the entire community.”
Before joining the Beeck Center, Spence was Director of Communications for Opportunity Insights at Harvard University and the Head of Politics and Communications at the British Consulate General, New England, where she oversaw the visits of Prime Minister David Cameron (Boston, 2013), UK Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond and U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry (Boston, 2014), His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales (Louisville, 2015), and Mayor of London Boris Johnson (Boston, 2015).
She graduated from Brown University with a Master in Public Affairs in 2017 and has served as adjunct faculty in leadership and global diplomacy at Emerson College.
