A Conversation with Amy J. Nelson on The Arms Control Paradox: Managing Uncertainty in an Insecure World
Harvard Faculty, Fellows, Staff, and Students
As treaties collapse, major powers race to militarize new domains, and actors develop weapons technology at unprecedented speed, the international security landscape has never felt more uncertain. In The Arms Control Paradox: Managing Uncertainty in an Insecure World, Amy J. Nelson argues that this uncertainty is precisely what makes traditional arms control approaches fall short— and what makes reaching new agreements so difficult. Drawing on years of research and policy experience, Nelson proposes a different approach: one that focuses on managing ambiguity rather than eliminating it.
