Based on a true story, this Irish drama revolves around the 1981 hunger strikes in Northern Ireland led by IRA prisoner Bobby Sands. The film depicts the wrenching decisions forced upon the families of two jailed strikers. Starring Helen Mirren and Fionnula Flanagan. Dr. James Livesey is an Irish historian from Trinity College, Dublin, and currently a Visiting Lecturer at Harvard?s Center for European Studies. He has written extensively on the development of democratic politics and culture, and is working on the history of Irish republicanism.
