"Wargaming International Crises" MTA Seminar with Erik Lin-Greenberg

Open to the Public

Wargaming International Crises

How can scholars and policy analysts study rare events in international politics? Political scientists and practitioners are increasingly turning to wargames as analytic tools that shed light on how crises might unfold. This talk will explore best practices in wargaming for scholarly and policy research on international crises, highlighting how to design, conduct, and analyze wargames—and identifying important limitations in their use. The talk will chart out how to integrate cutting edge social science techniques into wargaming and draw examples from recent games featuring emerging technology, coercive diplomacy, and nuclear brinkmanship.

In-person attendance in Littauer 324, Fainsod. Open to Harvard affiliates and guests who have RSVP'd with MTA.
