On Tuesday, January 27th, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Senate Committee on Banking held hearings on the prospects for the continued negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program and efficacy of additional sanctions, respectively.
The House Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by Congressman Ed Royce (R-CA), heard testimony from Eric Edelman of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments, John Hannah of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, Ray Takeyh of the Council on Foreign Relations, and Robert Einhorn of the Brookings Institution. The Senate Banking Committee, chaired by Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL), first heard testimony from Deputy Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence of the Treasury Department David Cohen. They also heard testimony from Patrick Clawson of the Washington Institute of Near East Policy, and Mark Dubowitz of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.
