In this discussion, LTC Groton will discuss how the Guard fits into USCYBERCOM’s overall mission as well as lessons learned from the recent CYBER YANKEE 2019 Exercise in which Cyber Network Defense Teams across New England in conjunction with DHS and the private sector tested their cyber defense posture in a simulated attack.
LTC Woody Groton has served in the United States Army for over 20 years. He is a Cyber branch officer currently assigned as the Chief Information Officer/G6 for the New Hampshire Army National Guard as well as the commander of the 195th Regiment, Regional Training Institute. LTC Groton also serves as the Chair of the New Hampshire Information Technology Council. LTC Groton is one of the principal architects of the Cyber Yankee exercise series.
LTC Groton has a Master’s of Science in Information Assurance/Cybersecurity from Regis University, a Master’s in Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College, and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science from Loyola University Maryland. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional and Certified Information Systems Auditor.
His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal for Valor, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault badge, and the Joint Staff Identification Badge.
LTC Groton is married to LTC Marie-Claude Bettencourt, M.D. and has five children. His oldest daughter Teresa is an Army officer at Fort Carson, Colorado.
