Lt Col Jonathan “Beaver” Lattimore is a National Defense Fellow and a Research Fellow in the International Security Program and Project on Managing the Atom at Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. Serving on the Project on Managing the Atom, he conducts and disseminates policy-relevant research on nuclear weapons, nuclear energy, and nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament.
Before the fellowship, he served as the Commander of the 2d Operations Support Squadron, Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana Lieutenant Colonel Lattimore earned his commission in 2007 following graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy where he majored in Systems Engineering.
He is a B-52 Command Pilot and United Stated Air Force Weapons School Graduate with over 500 hours combat experience and 3000 total hours including numerous nuclear and conventional deterrence missions. His staff experience includes two years on the Headquarters United States European Command staff as the Chief of Nuclear Planning.
Lieutenant Colonel Lattimore holds master's degrees in Aeronautical Science (Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University) and Master of Arts, Defense and Strategic Studies (United States Naval War College). He is also a graduate of the Navy’s Maritime Advanced Warfighting School.
His research interests include deterrence theory, the confluence of military nuclear actions and geopolitical decisions, and strategies for managing nuclear escalation.
