Report: Legal and Policy Developments Relevant to the Arctic Environment

Introduction

This report highlights the legal and policy developments that are directly relevant to the Arctic environment. These include the Conference of the Parties to the Central Arctic Ocean Fisheries Agreement; the agreements adopted under the auspices of the Arctic Council; the International Maritime Organization; and general environmental law with implications on the Arctic—specifically, the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Biodiversity beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement). It also covers other relevant developments that occurred at the regional, bilateral, and national levels.
